Kelli Zink Gives You the Skinny

by Kelli Zink – September 1, 2010

It may be Labor Day weekend already (WTF!?!) – but just because you can’t wear white anymore doesn’t mean you want to lose your golden glow.

Thankfully Chicago has jumped on the airbrush tanning wagon, and several services have popped up around the city to ensure you look toasty as the weather cools off. I still swear that a tan gives you the instant illusion of a five pound weight loss.

Glo at David Barton:

The gym that promises to make you “Look Better Naked” launches its Glo service today which swears to “provide the best tan imaginable.”

Glo lasts about 10 days and is made up of a non-toxic, sugar-like substance that originates in sugar beets and cane.

Translation: it’s totally natural and safe.

Currently, Glo is offering $10-off to first time clients. Price: $45.

Golden Girl Chicago:

Jenn Dieas and her team tans the likes of NBC’s Ginger Zee and Cheeky’s own Erica and Jessica, not to mention, yours truly.

Their natural and organic sunless spray is alcohol-, oil-, paraben- and fragrance-free. I can personally vouch for the fact that you can go out right after getting your bronze on and not smell a bit.

The coolest part about Golden Girl is that they come to you – any time, any place. Jenn pops up a small tent and less than 30 minutes later, she’s out the door and you’ve never looked better.  Price: $45.

Benefit:

Travel to the “candy store for women” pink and white shops located across Chicago for the richest airbrush experience I’ve seen.

Eliza Siep, who’s also a beauty expert and Tribune blogger, will custom mix the color you wish to be at the Bucktown location in about 10 minutes.

After the treatment, you’ll look brown (not orange) and be dusted with powder by another cheerful member of the Benefit team. This is ideal if you’re planning a night out – think staying power.

The major bonus is the scent: Benefit smells like a tropical vacation.

Price: $15 to $45.

Ortanic:

We at Cheeky feel an allegiance to Ortanic, and I’ve included them in this blog several times in the past.

We love that a portion of the proceeds go to skin cancer research and that the staff is so friendly and extensively trained.

The company, located in the Lincoln Park Equinox, will soon branch out to several locations around the city.

Ortanic is fast and flawless.

Price:  $45.

So don’t be afraid this fall – custom airbrush tans have come a long way since the orange disaster Ross Gellar made famous!
