Looking For Arts & Culture Exclusives? Get Your Cheeky Card!Fresh off their 19 – yes, 19 – Emmy nominations, including best actor and actress, best supporting actor and actress, and outstanding comedy series, the Glee cast is already thinking about what’s coming next. Attempting to top their wildly successful first season will be a challenge, but with stars already making their interest in Season Two very clear, it might be easier than the cast thinks.
Glee catapulted to instant success minutes after the pilot episode aired last spring. So what’s the secret to all this buzz about Glee? Some people say it’s the fresh and crazy attractive cast. Others say it’s the hilarious and oftentimes brutal comedy. And, obviously, the music selection doesn’t hurt. It seems to be a fantastic combination of everything.
So what will please Gleeks even more this time around? Even better music and even better guest stars. There are already celebrities lining up to be cast in the show or have their catalogues used, including Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and Katie Holmes. Some of the best episodes either had great guest stars, like Neil Patrick Harris and Kristen Chenoweth, or incredible themes, like Lady Gaga and Madonna. Cheeky has an idea of what should be included to make the second season of Glee even better than the first.
Britney Spears
As much as people claim they have forgotten about her after her divorce and head-shaving stunt, no one can forget the greatness that was – and still is – Britney Spears. Her catalog would lend itself to great storytelling about teenage growth, more Kurt gay jokes and even a potential guest star appearance.
Holiday Music
Religion always lends itself to teaching great coming-of-age lessons, something that the writers definitely pridethemselves on, especially in the latter part of last season. This would give them a great opportunity to reincorporate Puck and Rachel’s Jewish storyline into the plot. And who doesn’t love Christmas music?
Michael Jackson
A tribute is definitely in order. Although it might be a little late in timing, his music on an episode of Glee has the potential to surpass the Madonna episode, which is by far the best episode to date. And again, although cliché, his music is great for lesson learning and storytelling. Case in point: “Black or White” and “The Way You Make Me Feel.”
Mash-ups
Yes, it’s been done, but it was one of the best episodes of Season One. If it becomes a tradition, once per season, I don’t think there would be any complaints. “Walking on Sunshine” and “Halo” was a magical combination, as was “It’s My Life” and “Confessions Part II.” Katy Perry and Jason Derulo? I think yes.
Ellen DeGeneres
One of my personal favorites, Ellen DeGeneres, has a sense of humor and aura about her that would be perfect for Glee. Working her into the storyline would be the challenge, but if it were possible, she would be hilarious alongside Jane Lynch and her wonderfully cynical humor.
