Looking For Arts & Culture Exclusives? Get Your Cheeky Card!Powerhouse duo, The White Stripes, will play its first public appearance since 2007, this Friday night. The pair will be performing live on Late Night With Conan O’Brien to help the talk show host sign off from his duties as Late Night host. But the NBC stage won’t be unfamiliar to the duo, as they had a week-long residency on Late Night in 2003. O’Brien will relocate to L.A. to take over The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Alt-country rockers, Wilco, are set to release a new live DVD, Ashes of American Flags, due out April 18th. The DVD, whose release coincides with Record Store Day (www.recordstoreday.com), will be sold exclusively at independent retailers, and will include five nights of concert footage taken over 2008. Among the footage included are live performances from Nashville, Washington, D.C., New Orleans and Tulsa. Watch the trailer for Ashes of American Flags here.
Silversun Pickups made its debut in 2006 with Carnavas, a fusion of no-nonsense 90′s alternative rock and an acid-induced dream sequence. Sure, this sound has been done before – it was called the Smashing Pumpkins. That said, there have been many attempts at mastering the now quasi-defunct sound, but Silversun Pickups are the champs. Carnavas is home to the Pickups’ single, “Lazy Eye”, which received generous rotation. The L.A. based quartet releases its sophomore album, Swoon, on April 14th.
It has been confirmed that musicians Ryan Adams and Mandy Moore are engaged. The engagement announcement helps explain Adams’ Valentines Day EP, which upon its release last week was deemed a timely cash-cow. Now we know it’s just that Adams is simply in love!
Chicago’s, The 1900’s, has spawned its first side-project. The Mazes, which features Caroline Donovan and Edward Anderson (each members of the 1900’s), release their self-titled debut on March 17th. You can catch them showcasing their new tunes at The Whistler on March 2nd. Visit them on MySpace.
