The Power of Pink

Bright Pink Celebrates Breast Cancer Awareness Month

by Jen Hesser – October 16, 2009

Pink dresses, pink shoes (amongst which, rain boots and cowboy boots), pink clutches, and best of all bright pink lips adorning dozens of smiles of women proud and happy to be supporting Lindsay Avner’s ‘Be Bright Pink’ event at the Hard Rock Hotel.

The Hard Rock rocked with beautiful people from all over the city dressed to kill and there to support friends, family, and Chicagoans alike for the breast cancer awareness event of I would say, the month! I had the great opportunity to meet and chat with dozens of party goers who were clearly present for a good time, and very much present to be supporting those around them who have been through the challenges, the triumphs, and the overall journey that is breast and ovarian cancer.

I couldn’t think of a better space to throw a pink-themed event. The event space of the Hard Rock threw at us charcoal grey walls and interiors that made our pinkness just jump and shout. Everything seems to stand out a little brighter and a little flashier when accessorized with a great DJ and endless glasses of Champagne, let’s be honest. Be it the opening paparazzi-style photographers, or the ever-generous silent auction tables, the space was easy to mingle through and created a new scene from room to room. I danced, I saw familiar faces, met some new faces and left the event with a smile on my own face accompanied by an overall warm and fuzzy feeling that I and all of my fellow party go-ers had left Friday night in the name of an amazing cause.

If you have not had the chance to par-take this month in something pink-inspired, consider taking the time to do so. Nothing is cheekier in October then adorning the supporting color, donating free time to charities supporting breast cancer awareness and support, or giving a few extra dollars in the names of the people we know will be able to benefit from our generosity. I cannot name one woman I know who does not touch the life of someone else with breast or ovarian cancer. It is important throughout breast cancer awareness month as it is every other month of the year to support one another and to have all of our voices heard as to how important funding is for cancer research, cancer advancements in technology and medical treatments, and how very important it is to have funding to support patients and their families and friends. Education and commitment are our first steps! Let October be your month to Be Bright Pink, and cheeky too!
