Scene and Be Seen
Looking for Nightlife Exclusives? Get you Cheeky Card!Today I rode on the bus to work listening to a few girls sitting across from me planning their girl’s night out. They went back and forth wanting to go out, but not go to dinner; wanting to go for drinks, but not wanting to be somewhere too stuffy or too pub-ish. They wanted to do something other than the typical bar-hop or dinner and drinks night.
Enter stage right, Jennifer. I can’t help but interject when I hear people completely upside down about making plans for excursions or dining. Being a concierge, it makes my ears perk up and I can’t hold back when it comes to interjecting a thought or two. Nine times out of ten, I hit it on the nose. Now, keep in mind, I only interject my thoughts on places I have been to or experienced myself. I won’t make recommendations for places I have not yet tried. I went to After Hours at the Adler this past Thursday with my friend Erin and we had the best time.
So I mentioned to them about Adler Planetarium’s After Hours on the third Thursday of each month.
For $15, you have full reign of the museum, including all of the star shows, terraces, and the outside observatory (which never seems to be open when I am there during normal museum hours). We got there around 6:30, paid our tickets, happily checked our winter coats, and made our way into the main hall of the museum. May I say; I have never seen the Adler bumpin’ quite like this – DJ booth a-blaze, cash bars throughout both floors, and people everywhere. The crowd was divine; pretty 20- and 30-somethings either in small groups of friends, couples on dates, and even a nice crop of good looking guys – which provided perfect elbow rubbing for Erin and me.
The way they organized the evening really rotated around the schedule of the star shows. Now for those of you who have not been since you were six, they are still as cool, if not cooler, than the last time I had seen one. For those of you who have never seen a star show, I sometimes rank them right up there with a good massage. I find sitting under a full domed movie theatre surrounded on all sides by nothing but stars completely relaxing. Even more so with a glass of wine in hand!
Erin and I will be there on the 18th of February. The girls I met on the bus will be there on the 18th. Will you? The next third Thursday will be here before we know it. Pencil it in. Send out your Outlook reminders and Evites. See you at The Adler Planetarium on the third Thursday of each month for After Hours from 6-10 pm.
