My job as a celebrity writer got a little busier last week when I was put on duty to report whatever antics the “stars” from reality TV show Jersey Shore got into. But much to my apparent joy, they canceled last minute – although I’m sure it would have been a hilarious weekend, had it happened. From Snookie to “The Situation,” they were all supposed to spend the weekend partying it up at bars including Lumen and Manor, but something came up last-minute and they weren’t able to make it. Lumen released this statement when they found out the news:
“At 12:25 pm today, Lumen received a statement from the booking agent for cast members, Mike “The Situation” and DJ Pauly D, of MTV’s Jersey Shore which announced the cancellation of their travel to Chicago for scheduled appearances. Their booking agent confirmed with Lumen that the entire cast had been pulled from all North America appearances in order to fly to LA for a major press junket hosted by MTV.”
So, sorry to all those Jersey Shore fans that, um, just couldn’t wait for a peek at them in person. I think you’ll get over it though.
Moving on to sightings that I find more fun; Jerry Springer was spotted having lunch at Bistro 110 last week, but without any company. Jerry sat solo at a corner table and enjoyed the house signature French onion soup, beet and chicken salad, and a Coke. He was reading “Speech-Less,” the new book by Matt Latimer, former speech writer for the Bush administration.
And, my favorite sighting of the week, A-lister Harrison Ford was spotted in Chicago last week dining at Cafe Spiaggia with two friends. He was in town promoting his new movie (just in case you didn’t catch that all over the news last week). Guests saw the group dining on two courses each, including Harrison’s choice of the tagliatelle with braised duck and poached egg. Guests also overheard Harrison speaking with the staff about his knowledge of Sicilian wines…which explains the two bottles the small group enjoyed. Harrison was wearing a purple sweater with a studded earring to match. Also seen at Cafe Spiaggia the same evening was Mayor Richard Daley dining with a group of friends. The Mayor kept warm with a Tuscan bean soup. Yum! Love Café Spiaggia: cozy, chic, and delish.
