Sink Your Fangs Into This Soundtrack…

by Neph Basedow – October 8, 2009

If you thought you’d never read the words “Twilight” and “indie” in the same sentence, you’re not alone – neither did we. But truth be told, forthcoming Twilight film sequel, New Moon, features one of the most indie soundtracks to date. The first film of the Twilight saga featured a soundtrack that was dominated by harder-rocking pop artists like Muse, Paramore and Linkin Park – which is not the case this time around. The indie-shift can be noticed as early as the soundtrack’s opener, Death Cab For Cutie’s “Meet Me on the Equinox” – and it gets better. Standout artists include Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Lykke Li and St. Vincent, who teamed up with Bon Iver to record the song “Rosyln” for the soundtrack. Even indie-rock sensation Grizzly Bear (featuring Beach House’s Victoria Legrand) and alt-rock royalty, Thom Yorke (Radiohead) contributed to the tween sensation’s latest soundtrack.

Whether you’re on board with the buzz surrounding the Twilight saga or not, the soundtrack, at least, looks like it might rank among its rockin’ predecessors, like The Crow or Reality Bites. While viewers will have to wait until November 20th to see New Moon in theaters, the film’s soundtrack will be released October 20th. Check out the full track list below:
