Yes, it’s time for Pitchfork Music Festival. I know, you’ve been shopping for the perfect hipster outfit ALL summer long. Actually, let’s hope you have three outfits all set to go because Pitchfork is keepin’ the indie part-ay going. All. Weekend. Long.
This three-day, three-stage indie music fest is setting up shop in Union Park and is showcasing headliners Feist, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and Vampire Weekend.
Out of all the fests, Pitchfork is oh-so-easy to love with its kickin’ lineup, the sick after-parties (it never stops, does it?), the vintage jewelry and poster vendors (gives you the chance to casually say “Oh, this old thing? I bought it at Pitchfork.” NBD.) and the chance to show off your style (let’s face it, this is a KEY element).
But my absolute fave fave faaaave part of the weekend is takin’ a load off my feet and appreciating all the up-and-coming indie acts that are at my fingertips (er…eardrums?) all weekend.
Here’s a couple bands (okay, okay, they aren’t headliners, but they’re still must-sees!) that are on the top of my list and, on the off-chance you’re not completely rocked out afterwards, a few after-parties you should hit up.
At the fest: Jam to Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky, who has been gettin’ some major hype from MTV and Rolling Stone, at the red stage at 5:30pm. Then stay tuned at the red stage for the experimental, boundary-pushing rock group Dirty Projectors at 7:20pm.
After the fest: Catch comedian and former SNL contributor Hannibal Buress at Lincoln Hall at 10:30pm.
At the fest: Chill out to Cults, the indie rock duo who brought you the dreamy hit “Go Outside,” at 3:20pm at the red stage. Come back to the red stage later to get ready to dance dance dance (I mean it) to electronic music band Hot Chip at 7:25pm.
After the fest: I bet you won’t be done groovin’ after you hear Hot Chip the first time, so head to Beauty Bar for the Hot Chip DJ Set at 9pm.
At the fest: At the green stage, psychedelic rock band Real Estate will totally put you in a beachy, surfy state of mind at 4:15pm. Speaking of beaches…make sure to hit up the red stage at 7:25pm to hear the super mellow, ultra-talented duo Beach House.
After the fest: Check out the tavern atmosphere at Schubas to catch another performance of the lo-fi rock band Unknown Mortal Orchestra at 10pm in case you miss them earlier on Sunday.
Sooooo much to do, see, hear and wear at Pitchfork! Cheeky hipsters, come out, come out wherever you are! This is YOUR weekend.
