“It’s the French. You can’t explain it. It’s the je ne sais quoi,” says Kpoene’ Kofi-Nicklin, describing the inspiration behind the name for her Chicago bridal salon Mignonette, meaning “cute girl” in French. This former buyer has moved to the other side of the counter for the new opening.
The shop, featuring vintage furniture and reused shelving, features gifts like handmade 1920’s style garters, delicate ceramic ring dishes, headbands made from vintage metal pieces, candles that become lotion once burned and more! Kpoene’ is also the store’s certified bridal dressmaker. Mignonette offers a few of her items and is the exclusive store carrying designer Lovey’s dresses. Collection dresses start at $500. However, the focus here is on custom gowns—tea-lengths start at $900 and full at $1,200. Styles range from retro-chic to romantic with a modern twist (such as utilizing trendy colors nude, pink and gray).
You can also find designer vintage blazers and pants for him because Kpoene’ wants the groom to be a part of the wedding and look good, too. After all, we know at least one person will be looking at him: the bride.
She plans to offer a library of resources to meet every bride-to-be’s need—with a gallery of wedding planners, florists, venues and more—all to take stress out of the wedding (or at least lessen it).
It’s time to get your wedding planning on!
