Midwest Independent Film Festival: 2010 Kick-Off

Regional, Independent Films, Every First Tuesday of the Month

by Alison Weiss – January 26, 2010

Okay, Cheeky film buffs, it’s time to mark your calendars and get ready to catch indie movies from the heartland on the big screen, every month in Lincoln Park.  The Midwest Independent Film Festival kicks off its new season with a screening of Chicago Overcoat on Tuesday, February 2, at Landmark’s Century Centre Cinema at 2828 N. Clark St.  The event begins at 6 pm with a cocktail reception and producers’ panel, with the film screening at 7:30 pm. After the screening, Chicago Overcoat cast and crew members will remain in the theater for a discussion with the audience.  The evening concludes with an after-party at Forno Diablo.  Tickets are $10-15 and can be purchased here.

Chicago Overcoat stars Frank Vincent (The Sopranos, Goodfellas), veteran Chicago actor Danny Goldring, and the celebrated Stacy Keach (Prison Break, Mike Hammer). Vincent plays Lou Marazano, an aging mob hitman seeking one more big job so he can retire and leave Chicago with his girlfriend (Kathrine Narducci, The Sopranos).  Keach and Goldring play the detectives on his heels, in what looks to be an action-packed, gritty drama.  You can watch a trailer here.

The Midwest Independent Film Festival is a year-round, monthly festival presenting regionally-produced, independent cinema every first Tuesday of the month at Landmark’s Century Centre Cinema.   The MIFF also offers workshops and events throughout the year to strengthen the Chicago and Midwest filmmaker community.  Check out the full event calendar here.
