Ten months ago, I met a girl named Erica. She was the newbie at my office at my old day job (which I actually recently left to do Cheeky full-time). I had been there for three years and this new girl prances in one day with the cutest shoes I had seen in a while. In fact, she came in dressed to the nines pretty much every day for that first week. Please note that she and I worked at a health club facility, a.k.a., a GYM and my first instinct was to judge this girl and her fashion show -I didn’t. Judging isn’t cheeky. So one day, we bumped into each other on the mezzanine outside our respective offices. She was wearing red stilettos. I was wearing New Balances. She simply smiled. I simply smiled back and we started talking. Turns out, we had a lot in common: we both had done theatre, we knew a lot of the same people and we both loved going out. We clicked. We exchanged numbers, went out for a cocktail and within two weeks, I had a new friend. Two months later, I had a business partner. And now…here we are. Live, launched, delivered. Could you imagine if I had shunned over something as ridiculous as great taste in clothes?
So you and I, you and me, me and you, we are now Officially Cheeky. I’m Jessica, your co-host for here on out until indefinitely. This little thing you are looking at is the result of ten months of blood, sweat, tears and one simple smile – well, two actually. CheekyChicago is an informational resource/online-magazine/e-community hybrid solely dedicated to you and your fabulous, crazy, stressful, beautiful, confusing, fun, emotional, stylish, awkward, stimulating, real life in the big city. It comes from our hearts and we are so excited to share it with you. We know you’ve been waiting for it. We know, because we’ve been waiting for something like this too.
But more than the product itself, CheekyChicago.com is also a tribute to the Cheeky Spirit. The spirit that says: hey, we could all stand to be a little nicer to each other. We women are all so unique, complex and different from one another. Instead of being threatened, cold or judgmental, why not embrace those differences? Once we do, I think we’d find we have a lot more in common than we all think. And I don’t know about you, but most women I have met; strangers, acquaintances, best friends or otherwise, are pretty damn cool.
So I won’t bore with you the story of the blood, sweat and tears, because you already know that story. We all work our asses off, stress out, play hard, take things personally and believe in our own journey. We all sweat (the small stuff), shed tears (mostly over guys), and bleed (when we fall and scrape our knees.) And everyone falls and scrapes their knees. I just hope that CheekyChicago.com, along with the Cheeky girls you’ve got in your life, help to make that journey a little more fabulous. Welcome and enjoy…
