It seems like a never-ending mission: decorating your home. You may be on the hunt for something and have an idea in mind of exactly what you want. So when you actually score it, it’s a fantastic feeling! Chicago is filled with great home decorating resources. The stores below are some of my personal favorites! I bet they’ll become some of your new favorites too.

I recently set foot in Nadeau and was floored by the enormous selection of furniture at the most can’t beat prices. Once only reserved for decorators and retailers, Nadeau recently opened its doors to the public and even better, sells everything to you at wholesale. The eclectic wood furnishings are imported from India, Indonesia, and China, and new items are added weekly.

This Andersonville gem is small but houses the most interesting furniture. An urban antique shop, you’ll be sure to find a standout one-of-a-kind piece that Scout may have altered by changing the fabrication to make it more contemporary.

I make a point of always stopping here when I’m in Bucktown. The antique furniture, stunning chandeliers, lovely bedding, carved mirrors, interesting artwork, I could go on and on. Owner, Beth Brace, has created a store with a French provincial feel. Lots of white items make this space bright and welcoming.

I want everything in this store. Owner and interior designer, Lowell, has an amazing eye and in every corner of the store, you can spot something captivating that you’d love to take home with you. New merchandise is mixed in with antique furniture and art.

I know CB2 is nothing new, but I still remain in love with this store. Half my apartment furniture was acquired here. The store is colorful and happy and the customer service can’t be beat. I’ll see something I covet in a magazine and then find something at CB2 that achieves a similar look at a fair price.

Another oldie but goody. Jayson Home and Garden is ultra-posh and ultra-pricey, but once in a while I come upon something that I can afford and know I will relish forever. I could spend an hour walking around in here and salivating over everything luxe from an ottoman to a candle. A mix of traditional and contemporary pieces, this is also a great place to get decorating ideas. For the urban gardener, stop by the outdoor garden which has beautiful botanicals. For an extra-special occasion or for a superb centerpiece, flower arrangements that parallel the best florists’ can be purchased here as well.
If you’re in the North suburbs, I highly recommend taking the time to visit these home stores- they are my top picks on the North Shore!

The Seagrass motto is “A bit of the East Coast on the North Shore,” which is true of this charming store which makes you feel like you walked into a cozy cottage in Nantucket. I found an antique school desk that I couldn’t wait to get home, but I’ve also purchased small gifts here like a beautiful picture frame or a shell nightlight. You will love the hand-woven wall hanging rugs, children’s books and items, unusual clocks, and earthy elements like coral and shells.

Adesso is one of my favorite stores and one that I couldn’t wait to register at when I got married. Adesso has been a Highland Park staple for over 25 years and I believe this is partly because owner, Kathy Hahn, constantly rotates in new items. You will find everything here to adorn an outstanding table: serving pieces, dishes, tablecloths, placemats, vases, as well as home accessories like mirrors, bathroom accessories, ironware, etc. Lines include Michael Aram and Fringe as well as unknown vendors from around the world. Prices are good and you can always find something fabulous on sale too.
