Well, it’s official. Tank tops, short shorts, air conditioners, 80 degree weather… summer is here, friends. And with the heat comes summertime music festivals. While our fair city certainly is host to a number of local festivals – not to mention Lollapalooza – it’s worth considering that in nearby Milwaukee, WI there is such a music festival that’s touted as “The World’s Largest.” I am, of course, talking about Summerfest.

With 11 stages (including the Marcus Ampitheater), this week-and-a-half long event will have plenty to keep your eyes and ears satisfied, especially when you have the opportunity to see live acts for 12 hours a day (shows run from noon to midnight).

So, what to see? Take your pick, really. Opening night headliners include: Tim McGraw, Sheryl Crow, Passion Pit, Colbie Caillat and Kool & The Gang. Other notable acts include Public Enemy, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (with special guest ZZ Top), Thievery Corporation, Eric Clapton, Cypress Hill and Carrie Underwood. For Idol aficionados, American Idols Live! is even making an appearance. Like I said, it’s a veritable who’s who of performers.

What are you waiting for? Ditch the backyard barbeques this 4th of July and take the road trip to Milwaukee.

Summerfest runs from June 24-July 4. General admission tickets are $8-$15, depending on time of entry.
