Green City Market

Go Green. Go Local. Go GCM.

by Jessica Zweig – May 24, 2010

The Green City Market is back and better than ever.  After a successful indoor winter market at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, the first Saturday of the outdoor fest on May 15th in Lincoln Park drew a record-breaking 8000+ people – nice to know that Chicago’s staying green.  Honored as one of Travel and Leisure magazine’s best farmers markets in the country, the GCM has a pretty stellar calendar line-up for the summer.  In addition to the twice-weekly market on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7-1 pm, they’re also featuring cooking demos from such culinary rockstars as Rick Bayless, Stephanie Izard, and Rick Tramonto (just to name a few) and, of course, hosting one of the hottest soirees of the summer: the 10th Annual Green City Market Chef’s BBQ on July 15th, where you can rub elbows with the who’s who of Chicago’s culinary world (and taste their food). Now that summer’s in full swing, pop by the market so you can ‘Know your food.  Know your farmer.’
