Kate Somerville is One Cheeky Authority on Skin

by Jenny Muslin – June 1, 2010

I often used to hear about Hollywood skin guru, Kate Somerville, while reading a beauty magazine or watching the E! channel.  Women living in California (and celebrities galore) had access to Somerville’s renowned spa and trained aestheticians.  Lucky for me, when the Trump International Hotel opened in Chicago, it brought along with it Kate Somerville’s “skin health experts” (as she likes to call them), cutting-edge treatments and skin-saving products.  Among the entire Midwest, Kate Somerville treatments and products are exclusive to Chicago’s Trump Spa.

Recently, I had the opportunity to hear Kate speak at a press event at The Trump Spa. Aside from the fact that she was extremely personable, I was instantly drawn in by her story.  Kate got her start working with cosmetic surgeons and top dermatologists to integrate skincare and medicine. This strategy led to her medi-skin clinic in Los Angeles.  Today, Kate creates her products with a chemist and tests the products in her clinic before they are introduced to the public.

Kate’s signature treatments are available at The Trump Spa here in Chicago – which is very impressive and tranquil – and surprisingly, boasts zero attitude from the staff.  I tried the Dermal Quench Facial and let me tell you, it was honestly the best facial I’ve ever had. Oxygen, vitamins and hyaluronic serum is applied through a hyperbaric pressure wand onto your skin resulting in a gentle treatment that left my face looking healthy and glowing. It was an hour of total bliss, even with the extractions.  If you’re a bride-to-be or simply have a special event coming up, it would be wise to invest in this fabulous facial a week prior to the occasion. It will really give your skin a boost.

I recommend reading Kate’s fascinating book, Complexion Perfection! which features just about everything you’ve ever wanted to know about skincare as well as OMG-inducing before and after pictures. To get the full Kate Somerville experience, visit Chicago’s Trump Spa.

My Favorite Products:

Tanning Towelettes

These are Kate’s #1 selling product.  I tried one out and the next day immediately went online to order more.  You only need one tanning towelette to cover your face and body and your tan comes out completely streak-free. I have sensitive skin and I did not break out from the product.  Plus, I love that it’s paraben-free.  Color shows up within 2-4 hours and smells more like cleanser than that funky tanner smell so many people despise.  There is one universal color for all women because the tanner actually brings out your own natural pigments.

Deep Tissue Repair

One of Kate’s most popular products, Deep Tissue Repair is an anti-aging, everyday moisturizer, which promotes collagen and elasticity. Perfect for all ages and skin types. This cream has peptide K8 and promises firmer, younger-looking skin.

Quench Hydrating Face Serum

When your face needs an extra dose of hydration, this serum locks in water so your skin stays quenched all day. Wear this product under your moisturizer or on its own.

SPF 55 Serum Tinted Sunscreen

This is your ideal sunscreen. It’s water-resistant and has absolutely no greasiness, no stickiness, no icky smell and a nice amount of coverage. Available with or without tint, and free of oils, parabens and alcohol.

CytoCell Dermal Energizing Treatment

By using peptide P-199, a synthetic peptide that stimulates stem cell activity and collagen production, your skin appears smoother and more youthful. Clients have noticed results after seven days, but after 10 weeks of use, the results were even more astounding.

ExfoliKate

Kate says this product is the next best thing to her clinic’s Signature Facial. An exfoliate that clarifies your skin and combats acne and blackheads.

In addition to The Trump Spa, you can purchase Kate’s products at Nordstrom, Sephora or on her website.
