Get Ready for Football Season with a Little Luxury

Football Can Be Cheeky, Too

by Lakesha Rose – September 12, 2013

The official football season started last week! You are either a hardcore fan or a more supportive one because your significant other lives for the season. I’m the latter. Ordering food or ingredients online is still a huge business even though our local sourcing has improved greatly.

So to make football season as enjoyable for us as it is for them (them = the boys), let’s add some luxury to one of the parties. Anytime we have a gathering surrounding sports, I make sure to add linen napkins and flowers (for purely selfish reasons).

We have been to parties that have beer, brats, potato chips, etc. I found some luxury food items that will not only spark food conversation but perhaps get your friends to up their food game.

Here is what I found with Dean and DeLuca:

Whole suckling pig

Whole Suckling Pig

If you have the confidence.

It can be prepared in the oven or over the spit. Dean and DeLuca goes on to say: “Farm-raised in the foothills of Western North Carolina, our true Suckling Pig is 100% Berkshire, milk fed and completely hormone- and antibiotic-free. The pig will arrive whole, shaved cleaned with the head intact.”

Prime dry aged bistecca fliorentina

How about a piece of  prime dry aged Bistecca Fiorentina! I had this cut of beef while I was in Italy – it was the 10th day of our trip and all I was eating was fresh fish and vegetables, which was awesome, but at that point, I was begging for a piece of dry aged whatever! This piece of meat is mouth-watering good. It is 48-ounces so I think this is big enough to feed 4-6 small eaters.

Since most of us live in Chicago, instead of ordering this wonderful crate from Dean and Deluca, you can just visit 131 N Clinton St. or 1856 W. North Ave. (Lillie’s Q’s two locations) to pick up a crate. I was told by a Southerner that we tailgate professionally. I think Chicago Bears fans could also claim that same title.

Now, I’m sure we could all make a beautiful apple pie if we put our minds to it. But I’m going to be honest: I am not the best baker. My desserts will either impress you with their nice assembly or I will buy a dessert from a local bakery to knock your socks off. I have had several D and D desserts and you would never know it came from a shipped box.

There are other Chicago companies that have been making this flavor for years. But after trying Gary Poppins, you will see this is a step above. It’s all about the quality of ingredients. This wonderful popcorn can be found in these Chicago stores: Sunset Foods, Fox & Obel, Binny’s, Treasure Island, FoodStuffs or you can order online at Dean and Deluca.

Here’s another Cheeky food idea.
