Top 5 Fitness Fashion Trends for Spring

by Jenna Zaffino – March 13, 2013

Gone are the days of working out in slouchy sweats and college T’s. High fashion fitness is the name of the game and we’ve put a Cheeky spin on things by taking the hottest spring trends from New York Fashion Week off the runway and into your gym bag!

1. Bright, Bold Blocks of Color

Trend your way to the treadmill and replace that regulation “black yoga pant” with colors that bring more fun to your run!  Athleta leads the pack with a number of options for tops and bottoms in a rainbow of color choices. Our favorites include the Breathe Tank, in hot pink or sour apple, featuring a knit texture to cover your lumps and bumps and the Relay Capri in cobalt blue with feminine ruching details along the lower leg.

2. Leather and Lace

Really? Yes! What could be more Cheeky than the lycra and leather “Loretta” jacket from Anatomie to bring some rock to your Indo-Row™ class! From appliques to chantilly patterns, lacy pieces are available in a variety of colors, textures and styles. Perfect for Pilates, yoga or barre class, the “lacer-back” blue top from Nina B Roze provides you with elegance that is fashionably fun!

3. Black and White Graphic Patterns

Broad stripes and houndstooth patterns dominated the runways this spring. As an easy and interesting basic, black and white pieces can be changed up with a pop of color from a neon headband or your favorite pair of sneaks. As an added bonus, precisely placed patterns can lend a helpful hand in accentuating the positive. We love the Nike Legend 2.0 Dri Fit Tights at Nordstrom as they provide the perfect pattern to show off the hard work we’ve done with our “Cheekys.”

4. Beading and Sparkle

While beads on your behind may not make for a comfortable Flywheel experience, they will surely fancy up your yoga mat bag.  Gaiam features this beautiful beaded bag that has just the right amount of boho chic. Want to bring some sparkle to your squats? Protect your paws with these glittered gloves from Femme Fatale because cross-fit callouses are not Cheeky.

5. Cut-outs

We’ve certainly seen this look go from trendy to trashy; however, the right styling of a cut-out piece can bring an element of interest to your outfit. We love this muted look from Alo that incorporates both comfort and elegance. Rule of thumb – a cut-out should create interest, not exposure!

We challenge you to put your own spin on these Cheeky-chic fashion trends! Find a look you love? Tweet us the pics!
