.) Las Palmas. Table-side made guacamole, gourmet margaritas and gorgeous presentations aside, when we say that this is one of the best restaurants in Chicago, what we really mean is: this truly is one of the best restaurants in Chicago.
.) Twin Anchors. Even though Oprah and Robert DeNiro are both fans, you won’t find any “scene” at this corner dive tucked deep inside the neighborhood-y streets of Old Town. Beer-drinking locals, laid back service and the best BBQ in town make it one of the finest gems on our list.
.) Accanto. Fine dining, European-inspired cuisine from an internationally renowned chef (formerly of the hotels of Dubai) located on a random, ambiguous strip on Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square? Yep.
.) Usagi Ya. Quality that’s on par with Mirai, creativity that could go head-to-head with Sunda, service as good as Sixteen, drinks as strong as anywhere and you’ve got one of the best sushi spots in town.
.) Blue 13. While it may not be tucked away in some ubiquitous neighborhood, but rather in the heart of River North, foodies still don’t gloat about it as much as graham elliot and BOKA. However – they should. (It’s better.)
.) m. henry. Just a few words….Sweet. Potato. Pancakes. With. Candied. Walnuts. And. Maple. Whipped. Cream. Need we say more?
.) Kuma’s Corner. Considering that Lady Gaga ate here last year, it’s definitely not “hidden,” but with rock n’ roll inspired burgers, made-to-order mac n’ cheese, a ridiculously awesome selection of craft beers and the Gaga seal of approval, it certainly is a gem.
.) Harmony Bar & Grill. Indie music fans note the corner of Belmont and Southport for the music club Schubas. Cheeky fans should note the corner of Belmont and Southport for homemade style, vegan-friendly, finger lickin’ good Southern American cuisine, complete with veggie chili, catfish tacos, meatloaf and sweet potato fries.
.) Dorado. Mexican food meets French inspiration located in a charming nook of Lincoln Square offers the kind of sophistication, not to mention deliciousness, you’d expect to find at Frontera Grill or Nacional 27. Did we mention it’s BYOB?
.) La Fonda. A casual storefront at Broadway and Foster in Uptown feels more like a real Latin family home with warm smiles, familiar faces and a “sit wherever you want” vibe… the epitome of a “hidden gem.”
