Looking for Restaurant Exclusives? Get Your Cheeky Card! The temperatures are finally frigid, and nothing sounds better than a piping hot latte. However, contrary to popular belief, warm drinks don’t actually increase our internal temperature. All the more reason to swap that latte for a healthy juice first thing in the morning (and not the store-bought juices that are loaded with added sugars and preservatives).
During the winter months, our vegetable intake decreases rapidly. We reach for comfort foods, hot foods, foods that go great with a movie and a fire. It’s tough to want to eat a big, healthy salad instead of a piece of lasagna.
So, if you are falling behind on your veggie intake, invest in a juicer (or a really good blender). Drink a juice first thing in the morning and revel in the instant energy (without the crash from caffeine) that will last all day long.
If you can, go to Stanley’s, where you can load up on about four grocery bags of fruits and veggies for under $30. (They have great organic juicing carrots as well.)
Ingredients:
1 cucumber
1 large juicing carrot
2 small Red Delicious apples
4 stalks celery
2 large handfuls spinach
1. Juice or blend all ingredients, stir well, and sip slowly. Enjoy!
