Cheeky Gets Vamped

A Very Cheeky Halloween

by Alison Weiss – October 30, 2009
560 W. Grand Street, Chicago

Forget garlic and mirrors — nothing wards off vampires and demons like fabulous hair and make-up. Trust us, it’s been well documented. Maybe it’s a jealousy thing.

So before our private, VIP tour through the Chicago Tribune’s famous haunted house, Chronicles of Cursed, we thought it wise to get vamped. As guests gathered in a tent next to the haunted house in the Trib’s huge lot on Grand Ave, the pros from Urban Decay and The Salon at ULTA did make-up and hair. A photographer snapped “after” pics (keep an eye on the Chicago Tribune Events page on Facebook) and DJ Dominic blasted music to keep everyone warm. Guests toured the house, and then everyone got a goodie bag full of make-up and coupons, including drink tickets from Absolut Vodka for the after party at The Motel Bar. Yep, that’s how Cheeky does Halloween.

We also brought a camera, and got backstage access with the haunted house’s actors. They got make-overs too, but with heavy machinery and a little more blood. They also had props, some of which were alive. You’ll see.
