Cerato

by Jenny Muslin – May 20, 2010

The word “cerato” is the name of a Bach flower remedy that means ‘to heighten trust in your own judgment.’ You can trust your judgment that Cerato – the boutique – will be a perfect destination for your next shopping excursion.  From a dress that works perfectly for a special occasion to a vintage cuff that instantly spices up an everyday outfit, Cerato has a distinct selection of beautiful pieces, the majority from up-and-coming Chicago designers.

Having just opened May 8th, owner Tracey Gilbowski’s quaint boutique was already busy when I visited last Saturday. This may be because Tracey stocks designers that you’re not going to see at every other boutique/department store.  Clothing lines include Kristin Hassan, Anna Fong, Guido & Mary, Jlee Silver, Ali Ro, Eskell and jewelry by Juxtapose, Jules and Paoo. I fell in love with a pair of silk, print Eskell shorts, perfect for dressing up with a fitted tee and heels. I also went crazy for a multi-colored wrap skirt by Kristin Hassan and the vintage re-worked jewelry by Juxtapose. The kicker is that nothing is over $350. It was important for Tracey to be mindful of price-point, so women could find a quality piece at an affordable price. Tracey’s intention in opening her store was to create her own unique brand, while sharing her passion with other women. Cerato’s welcoming, friendly vibe was evident from the first moment I stepped inside.
