Chicago theater company Collaboraction held its 6th annual Carnaval event last Saturday. This multi-media extravaganza doubles as both a donors’ party and the official launch of the group’s critically-acclaimed short play festival, Sketchbook 9.

But this year’s Carnaval served a third purpose: house-warming party. Collaboraction has new digs at Westgrand studios, the ginourmous soundstage that will serve as a performance space for both this group and rental companies. The key word is “new” – we’re told teams of volunteers worked around the clock to transform the space into the magical enclave of art, dance and music that Carnaval guests experienced. Leave it to theater people to pull off a party like this.
