Fit 'n' Pretty
Looking for Health & Beauty Exclusives? Get your Cheeky Card!I’ve had plenty of hair mishaps over the years, lemme tell ya. So when one of my close friends came back from her salon (once again) with perfectly done highlights (as she had been doing for years), I had to check it out for myself.
The master behind those golden locks was color king David Hewitt.
Everything from start to finish was worthy of royalty. I went in for a consultation to begin. Since I don’t have blond hair naturally (duh) my highlights can turn brassy really quickly, so I stressed the fact that orange and red hues were a deal breaker.
After discussing my wants and desires David disappeared to mix my color, then popped back into sight to get to work. And let me tell you, this was not an easy task at hand. For starters, my highlights were a mess – I had seen a few different colorists in the past year and, like I mentioned earlier, they were not all on par. We’ll just leave it at that. Secondly, my hair is long and my roots are dark. You do the math. But David plugged away for hours, meticulously painting each strand with various different shades of bright highlights and sexy lowlights (not too dark, just the perfect bit of contrast, just the way I love it).
The result, dear Cheekies, was nothing short of extraordinary, which is why I was prompted to write about it. When the towel came off my head post-foil and my hair was dried to the perfectly tousled style, I emerged as a freshly coiffed, bubbly blond that I spend half my life (and paycheck) trying to achieve. Ah, a much-needed sigh of relief. The highlights were the perfect champagne color, the lowlights were the perfect contrast, and my stylist – a.k.a. new BFF – had achieved what I have thought for the past decade of being blond was nearly impossible.
Now, as I sit and write this, my highlights are all grown out, so I daydream (and night-dream) of getting back into Salon Michael ASAP to get my color fix, by my color beau – David Hewitt.
Perhaps it was our bonding session over past relationships, our chatter over the latest gossip in magazines, or maybe it was his background in counseling that really made me feel like for once in my life, a man was listening to me, but I swear, I left feeling renewed on so many different levels.
See? Being blond is more than appearance. After spending hours and hours of my life in a salon chair processing color, a girl’s gotta find someone to relate to. A drama-free, low-key environment by a stylist who not only has a true knack for color, but who is a genuinely cool individual – so cheeky.
You can get colored by David Hewitt at the warm and friendly Salon Michael in Lincoln Park.
