When it’s snowy and gross outside, it’s not easy to motivate myself to drive to my health club. Enter Tracy Anderson. After seeing Gwyneth Paltrow rave about Tracy on Oprah, I immediately ordered her Mat Method DVD and then became obsessed! I know, I know – the thought of doing a workout DVD might conjure up images of Jane Fonda, but Tracy’s method honestly works. All you need are three pound weights, a chair, and a little bit of room.
As the celebrity trainer of such bangin’ bodies as Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna, and Kate Hudson, Tracy’s method is based on toning and strengthening without bulking you. A former dancer, Tracy uses fluid dance and Pilates-like movements to target your accessory muscles: the smaller muscle groups that are often ignored. I have turned my friends, my mom, and even total strangers onto her method. After doing the DVD four-five times a week, I started seeing results after only a couple of weeks. The entire DVD runs about an hour, but some days I may just do the abs or arms section.
The DVDs can be purchased on her website or on Amazon (I recommend buying them through Amazon because they ship more quickly).
If you want to sample Tracy before you buy the DVD, you can purchase one of her 10-minute ‘webisodes’ for $10 each - all proceeds benefit the Raising Malawi Foundation. These are convenient on my iPhone for on-the-go exercising.
My only gripe with Tracy is the sexy faces she makes at the camera, but if you can get past this, you’ll love the results and convenience of her workout. Start with the original Mat Workout DVD and if you really become inspired, mix in one of her others. Now get moving! Happy exercising!
