Comedian Adam Carolla Gets Cheeky-With-It

And Doesn't Love Gaga As Much As We Do...

by Lauren Shapiro – September 1, 2010

The grand opening of the Craftsman Experience space took place in Chicago last Thursday night. The location, which will be free to the public moving forward, showcases the line’s tools and provides visitors with hands-on tool testing and interactive garage design. The night was chic and wonderful, with drinks and passed trays full of different goodies. And to make the night even more special, Adam Carolla, famed comedian and expert carpenter, was the face of the event, entertaining the crowd with live stand-up. Cheeky got a chance to sit down with Carolla to find out about his past experience as a carpenter and why some of the waitresses at the event were more intriguing to him than Lady Gaga.

Cheeky: How did you end up at this event?

Adam Carolla: Well, I’m a tool man and I was a contractor for a bunch of years. I always loved Craftsman, Sears, wood working, wrenching on cars and all that. I never really did anything from a sponsorship standpoint until now. I would do various commercials and gigs but this was the first time that someone actually said “Hey, this guy likes tools, so instead of getting David Spade to pretend he likes tools, lets get this guy who actually does!”

Cheeky: What’s your favorite thing about Chicago?

AC: Well, I used to come here with Dr. Drew all the time to do [The] Loveline [Show]. I love the Merchandise Mart. I love the river and the bridges and walking to and from the big buildings and seeing all the architecture. There are so many industrialists and great people who built this city. It’s amazing being right off the lake, just having a usable city. You can walk around here. Los Angeles has a downtown, but you don’t really go there. It’s all kind of spread out, with little pockets. Chicago has a real downtown. And I really just love all the architecture.

Cheeky: What do you think of the women of Chicago?

AC: I haven’t met any… intimately, you know, but I will say that all the women working here as waitresses are good looking, so that’s a pretty good sign. It’s a Thursday night and all they’re doing is holding trays of food. I’d say that this bodes well for the women of Chicago. LA has good-looking women, but they wouldn’t carry trays around. See, there’s a waitress here who looks just like Reese Witherspoon, just carrying around Swedish meatballs. If I said to Reese Witherspoon, “Hey, carry around this tray of meatballs for $11 an hour,” she’d slap me right in the face with the tray.

Cheeky: Is there a celebrity story in the media right now that you love to hate?

AC: It always goes from Mel Gibson to Lindsay Lohan, and then now it’s Hannah Montana talk. This girl, she wants to shed her good girl image. Why does every girl want to shed that? I don’t know. First off, her and Lady Gaga together, I give a score of about 4 ½ in the looks department. I would go out on a limb and say that I could walk through this studio right now and bring back four chicks wearing black and carrying trays that are better looking than Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus. I’m totally going to do that.

Cheeky: What’s the Cheekiest thing you’ve done this week?

AC: I think they say ‘cheeky’ in England?  Yes, they totally do. Awesome. Well, in terms of being bold, I’m about to go get a girl that looks like Reese Witherspoon and I’m a very happily married man. And I also stayed up for 24 hours yesterday because I took a redeye flight in. My past 24 hours have been pretty cheeky. My wife is lucky that I’m too tired to get up and go pick up Reese Witherspoon’s doppelganger over there.
