In 2007, after working for over ten years in corporate America, Chicago native Christopher Augmon decided it was time to launch the handbag line he’d put on the back burner. He took a year to learn the business of fashion and design before introducing Augmon’s Handbag Collection in November, 2008. The first expertly crafted Augmon handbag was sold that month when a friend opened their home for a private sale. By December, he had sold $10,000 worth of inventory, and before long “It” celebrities like actress Zoe Saldana and America’s Next Top Model winner Jaslene Gonzalez were toting Augmon handbags.
The next year Christopher launched a line of affordable luxury accessories that would expand the Augmon Collection as well as his fan base. The designer explains that, “What makes an Augmon piece so appealing is that they are both classic and edgy, any item from my collection can be worn to both the boardroom and a concert arena.” And that type of versatility in a purchase is just what this modern recessionista is looking for in these lean economic times.
My absolute favorite Augmon piece is the button wrist wrap. It’s both eye-catching and funky in black leather while the python version is feminine with texture and is also available in a pretty pink that really pops. His python and leather cuffs, studded double collar button bracelets, gold plated zipper bangles and studded leather rings and ear hoops are both rock ‘n’ roll hip while still being simplistic and luxe.
Whether it’s a hip clutch, hobo or bangle, you’ll fall in love with Augmon’s class-edge style. He’s managed to create a line that is both beautiful and unique while still being exciting and inspiring. Who wouldn’t want to ornament themselves in items with that type of appeal?
